An ingress controller is responsible for reading the Ingress Resource information and processing that data accordingly. For a while now Ive been looking for a way to give these containers static IP addresses because right now every time the containers (or the host) restarts the IPs change and I need to manually adjust the configuration of each container to fix it. These implementations are known as ingress controllers. I have several docker containers that depend on each other and need to be able to communicate over the network. Docker Desktop delivers the speed, choice and security you need for designing and delivering these containerized applications on your desktop. An ingress is a core concept (in beta) of Kubernetes, but is always implemented by a third party proxy. And each network is created with a default subnet mask, using it as a pool later on to give away the IP addresses.

If that’s the case you would just use as your DB connection host. I often see this use case come up when people are beginning to move their stack over into using Docker. Its a private beta: you need to apply and wait to be given. This could come in handy if you wanted to connect to a database that’s running on your host but isn’t running inside of a container. That cant be done on a Mac, because the host computer is a virtual machine, and even though Docker can access a folder in your Mac, the server installation fails for lack of permissions.
